Tonisha Brooks – Estate Administration Paralegal
Toni Brooks is the head of our Estate Administration Department for the last 6 years. She has been a paralegal for 15+ years. Toni’s expertise in guiding hundreds of families through the complex issues of modest-to-multi-million dollar estates has contributed greatly to our core Estate Management Practice.
During what is often one of the most difficult times in a family’s life, Toni meticulously guides our families through the process of managing their loved one’s affairs. The process begins with:
- Analysis of the decedent’s Will (if available);
- Identifying who the named executor(s) and named beneficiary(s) are;
- Performing an heir search, if necessary;
- Categorizing, translating, and assembling the decedent’s assets, both individually- and jointly-held;
- Obtaining copies of deeds for property held in the state of New Jersey (NJ) as well outside of NJ;
- Identifying known and unknown creditors;
- Filing of Inheritance/Estate tax returns, then arranging payment of the tax liability (if any);
- Providing an accounting record to all beneficiaries;
- And lastly, making final distributions.
On the client’s behalf, Toni manages the decedent’s assets and communicates with all financial institutions, brokerage firms, and lending houses, thereby arranging for the outstanding creditors to be paid. She then prepares NJ Estate and Inheritance tax returns. Once all aspects of the estate have been addressed and the Inheritance/Estate tax liability (if applicable) has been paid, Toni distributes the assets according to the provisions of the Will.
Toni understands all too well what our clients are going through: she took on the responsibility of managing her own mother’s estate when she passed away a few years ago. She offers an array of estate administration services designed to assist our clients through a very difficult time.
Toni serves each of our clients as if they were one of her own family members. She recognizes her availability to our families is an essential part of the estate administration process. As such, Toni ensures that she is available to our clients via phone, email, and conferences throughout the entire administration of the estate.
Toni is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner.
